OK, this is painful to admit... but we're among friends, right? :)

I've been struggling with my book for two years.

I haven't told many people that—because I am a book coach. I'm the ghostwriter who helps people finish books. I wrote a whole book on productivity.
​
And and I am struggling.
​
It's not the book—it's just that the book hasn't been my priority. I've been building a new business. I've been working with some incredible clients. I've been putting out fires at home.
​
Sometimes you're in a season of writing a book, sometimes you're in a season where other things matter more.
​
And sometimes...

Sometimes you're just ready to stop spinning your wheels and finish the damn thing.

That's me right now.

So I've done three things to light a fire and actually help me finish this book: I got accountability, I established a firm deadline, and I put money on the line.

​Accountability​
I committed to Zoom writing sprints from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Monday through Thursday Pacific Time. Just knowing that someone else might show up means I'm at my desk and ready to write. (If you want the link to that, let me know!)

​A hard deadline​
I submitted a short story set in this book's world to a thriller anthology that comes out in November. It got accepted—yay! But that also means this novel needs to be finished and ready for sale by the time the anthology comes out.

​Money on the line​
Yesterday, I cemented the deal by emailing my editor and asking for some time on her schedule in September. That's not just a fluffy deadline—it's one with money on the line.

I'm sharing this because if you've been struggling to finish a book, you're not alone.

It's just really, really hard sometimes to make a book project a priority.

• Get yourself some accountability (come join the morning Zoom sprints!)
• Set yourself a real deadline
• And put some money on the line by booking an editor or hiring a coach
