[Story Rebel Roundup] Just one word...

My Dig word is Possibility.

I embrace possibility. I delight in it. I look for it everywhere. I help others see their own possibility.

And, because a Dig word is both your superpower and your Achilles heel, I also get easily overwhelmed by possibility. I shut down when there are too many choices, too many obligations, too many possibilities on the table.

I want to keep all possible paths open, so asking me to choose triggers something deep and painful for me.

But... what am I talking about? What's a Dig word?

Well, my friend, I'm so excited to introduce you to this concept.

Last year, I worked with Erin Weed, founder of The Dig method, to write her newest book. And it's coming out next month!

The book is all about Erin's Dig method—the method she’s used with thousands of people to help them uncover their true purpose and live it out with clarity and courage.

Going through The Dig is simple, yet extremely profound. The idea is to sift back through the stories of your life to find the hidden pattern you live by (your Human Operating System), and distill that operating system down to a single word.

Uncovering your operating system and Dig word helps you make sense of your decision-making process and your impulses. It helps you identify why you're stuck. It helps you make better choices so you can live a more aligned life.

Finding your Dig word helps you know yourself.

As part of the writing process, Erin coached me through my own Dig to find the word Possibility, and I have thought about it nearly every day since.

I even got a tattoo to remind me! (IG post here.)

I'm working on a post about my personal journey through the Dig process. But first: I interviewed Erin about her forthcoming book, Just One Word: The Surprisingly Simple Method to Discover Your Purpose and Unleash Your Power.

We talk about:

  • why she decided to hire a ghostwriter
  • what the process of working together was like
  • what this book will mean for her business (and the impact she's making in the world)
  • why more authors need to realize that writing a book is a group project

This was the most personally transformative book I've worked on for a client, and I cannot wait for you to read it!

🎨 As a writer, I have a lot of opinions about using AI to write. And all of them can be summed up by this Oatmeal essay/comic. It’s a long but entertaining read, and the point is this: writing and art are forms of communication from one soul to another. As a consumer, I love it when art makes me curious about the creator behind the piece. Why did they choose that color, or that sentence structure? What was their process like? What are their secret pains?

AI has its uses—I use it almost daily in my business. But it can never mimic the thing I really want out of art: a glimpse into another human’s soul.

As Matthew Inman of The Oatmeal writes:

📚 It’s the last week to sign up for the Nonfiction Writer’s Conference and receive the 20% discount. I’m not presenting this year—only attending—but it looks like it’ll be a great lineup! I’m particularly excited to hear Mike Michalowicz speak about how he sold over 1 million books through self publishing. (I actually hadn’t realized he self-published his books—several of which I have on my own shelf. Fascinating!)

🎤 Speaking of conferences, the Introvertpreneur Summit is NEXT WEEK! Eeek! I’m so excited. I’ll be presenting about the 5 stories you need to have in your introvert’s toolkit. If you haven’t gotten your ticket yet, what are you waiting for? Here’s the link to register for free.

Talk soon,

Jessie

P.S. Here’s that link again for the Introvertpreneur Summit!
