The art of fighting

I read Priya Parker's The Art of Gathering as I was organizing the first Author Alchemy Summit in 2024, on the recommendation of one of my clients.

It's all about creating meaningful experiences in groups of all sizes—whether you're joining a couple of friends for a happy hour, gathering with extended family for a holiday dinner, running a meeting, or organizing a conference.

How do you set the container for the gathering? How do you spark and guide meaningful conversation? How do you make people feel included?

The Art of Gathering changed how I think about creating experiences. And Priya Parker's new book, The Art of Fighting, is her attempt to change how we navigate conflict—with greater wisdom, generosity, and humanity.

It's on the top of my bedside stack right now.

Partly because we're in the midst of a particularly cantankerous season (politics, amirite?), and partly because I'm currently building a community—and even the smoothest community comes with conflict.

It's not enough to just gather people together intentionally if you want to be a leader. It also means knowing how to navigate disagreements and have difficult conversations without losing your shared connection.

You might have heard me mention that I’m part of Linda Sidhu's MixerMind community, where she brings together established entrepreneurs through virtual mixers, a mini-mastermind, and some pretty incredible opportunities to connect and collaborate.

Linda is a superconnector in the online business world, and I’ve been blown away by the people I’ve met through her community and the unexpected opportunities that can come from being in the right room with the right people.

Like... Priya Parker.

(*fangirl scream!*)

On November 3, Linda is hosting a special conversation with Priya Parker, and when she told us that she was opening the call up to guests of MixerMind members, I flew to my keyboard to invite you.

Want to join us?

Save your spot here! It's totally free, and I'm sure it will be an incredible conversation.

(And if you’d like a taste of Priya’s work before the event, you can hear her podcast interviews with Brené Brown, Glennon Doyle, and Monica Lewinsky.)

I hope to see you there.
